Disaster Services

Disaster can strike without warning, and here on Okinawa, we are particularly vulnerable to various forces of nature. Typhoons and subsequent flooding are especially threatening, which is why the American Red Cross is available to assist the community with preparedness tips, weather updates, current TCCOR levels, and a Disaster Action Team.

  • Typhoon season runs from June 1st through November 30th

  • An average of 7 typhoons reach the island of Okinawa each year

  • Though much of the infrastructure on Okinawa is built to withstand typhoons, it is possible for storms to cause flooding, destruction of property, injury, or death

  • Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness (TCCOR) procedures provide actions to take to prevent injury and ensure safety

  • Preparedness is key to minimizing the effects caused by typhoons or other disaster
