The American Red Cross Okinawa Chapter is always looking for enthusiastic, committed volunteers to help us fulfill our mission, and we encourage anyone who is interested in helping us meet our goals, to contact us or join us at Volunteer Orientation.
Volunteer Position Descriptions
Organizational and/or Public Speaking Roles
Special Events
Be part of the team! Assist staff with organizing and conducting Red Cross Events and hosting tables and activities at base events. Examples include our Annual Zombie Run and Appreciation Ceremonies, Spooky Town, Tinsel Town, and Eggsplosion. Experience with organizing an event is desirable, but not required.
Briefers
We speak at different meetings and briefs to inform commands and community members on why we are here, what we offer, and what we have accomplished. There is no better way to spread the word than with our passionate, dedicated volunteers! Command meetings, Pre-deployment and Deployment briefs, Family Readiness Group briefs, and Welcome Aboard briefs are just a few of the areas we cover. Familiarity with PowerPoint and the ability to make updates or changes is a plus!
Pillow Case Project Presenters
Be a presenter for our youth disaster preparedness program! Students learn the best ways to stay safe and how to create their own emergency supply kits by packing essential items in a pillowcase for easy transport during a disaster. Students also have the opportunity to decorate and personalize their pillowcases and share what they’ve learned with friends and family.
Volunteer Services Support
Help guide new volunteers through the intake process! Monitor and process new applications submitted in Volunteer Connection, our on-line volunteer management system, and follow up with prospective volunteers to remind them to complete all application steps.
Office, Hospital, and Dental
Hospital Volunteer Members
The coordinator places volunteers in the hospital and in the clinics according to their skill and experience, depending on what each department may need. Must be positive, supportive, and possess good organizational skills. Minimum of 3 days per week are required to make sure the departments get the help they need. If you would like to be in the middle of the hospital making sure the positions are filled with happy volunteers, apply today!
Office Volunteer (Various Locations)
Want to be a part of the team but aren’t sure where to start? Have a passion for office work? Come join us! Responsibilities include greeting visitors to the ARC office, answering questions and referring clients to the appropriate person or office, handing out volunteer packets as requested, answering the telephone, and taking messages as appropriate. Clerical duties such as filing, copying, updating manuals/SOPs, and data entry as needed.
Positions at Okinawa Military Treatment Facilities
You must complete the initial local Red Cross orientation in our Okinawa Chapter PRIOR to going to the clinic/hospital. Then complete the entire in-processing checklist for the MTF. Most of the positions available are administrative in nature. If you are a nurse or other licensed professional or have a degree in the medical field, more opportunities are open to you.
Dental Program Volunteers
This position is to coordinate the American Red Cross dental assistant training program. Depending on availability we offer this program twice a year, for which we receive lots of applications. We need you making sure we have everything going as planned!
Social Media, Photography, and IT
Marketing & Photography Volunteers
Assist with the fun and challenging task of marketing the Red Cross services and functions to our military community. Some of the tasks include keeping our website and social media updated, organizing marketing campaigns for events and functions, reaching the community with the info tables, and making sure the printed materials are within Red Cross brand guidelines. Having knowledge of MS Word and Publisher, as well as some knowledge of any photo editing software are greatly appreciated. Be in the mix of everything, and keep everyone posted!
IT Assistant Team Members
Do you enjoy working with computers? We're looking for a motivated individual to assist with computer hardware and software, basic multimedia devices, basic network issues and printer issues. We also need help maintaining our web site and Facebook page. Please contact our office today, if interested!
Disaster Outreach, Instruction, Case Management
Mass Care Team Member
Promote disaster preparedness in the community and responds to disasters. NEO and Military exercises included. Volunteers needed for days, evenings, and weekends.
Instructors
Must be available once quarterly to teach a CPR/First Aid/AED, BLS, or Babysitting course to the community. Requires 1-2 full days of comprehensive Red Cross training, which is currently available. Scholarship available. Paid positions available in USA.
Service to the Armed Forces Case Management
SAF Emergency Communication Caseworkers are vital members of the American Red Cross. Caseworkers receive training on how to retrieve and deliver Red Cross messages to the unit and to follow-up when appropriate. Familiarity with military terminology is a plus and confidentiality is a must!
Youth Volunteer Positions
Youth Club Volunteers
We are looking for youth volunteers!
If you are a member of Kadena high school, we have a Red Cross Youth Club! Meetings are held weekly.
If not, that's fine, too! We want to engage the youth from ages 13-18 with community related activities. We assist in the planning and execution of projects where youth can interact with community partners and give back to the community itself.
